DEAN'S QUARTERLY NEWLETTER, Vol. 7, No. 2, 12/03/2003

HIGHLIGHTS OF AUTUMN 2003:

My second trip to Minnesota this year was again relaxing, catching up with family and friends.  The timing in October was perfect weatherwise and the autumn leaves were at their peak.  I particularly enjoyed many pleasant walks in the park with my brother, sister-in-law and mother, but I also had a little good quality time with my father, stepfather, aunts, uncles, cousins, niece, nephews, and high school friends.  Among them, it was great to see for the second time this year Tim Malloy and his wife Elizabeth, who coincidentally came to Minnesota from Colorado at the same time I was there.  They were accompanied by their sweet newborn, Katherine.

It was the first time in over a quarter century since I sat down at length with my high school friends, Shelly, Barb and Judi.  We see each other every five years at high school reunions, but there had never been enough time to truly catch up until our meeting at Shelly’s house in October.  This time, we had five hours to chat, flashback, and be awed by the unfathomable notion of three decades having passed since we first met.  Of course we look marginally different than younger days, and the three of them now have families with two children each, but we all seem surprisingly the same as we once were, and our meeting felt as comfortable as a hand in a glove.  For awhile, everything felt suspended in time.

Here are a few other photos:
